If there is a question for the absent person, ask it anyway and dead air for the supposed length of time to answer the question.

Rappler columnist @jnery_newsstand suggests there should be an empty chair to represent a candidate who does not attend a presidential forum/debate.

This would stress to viewers that candidate's failure to show up to face tough questions from journalists and be transparent.
